Science & History that Pertain to Retail and the Earth-Friendly Firestarters Industry
The Mitigation of environmental pollutants has become a foremost approach to tackling the dangers presented by Man-Made Climate Change. And pretty much everybody on the planet can contribute to the reduction of CO2 in our atmosphere, considering the astounding reach and mass-market saturation of products that in some form or fashion owe their existence to the Fossil-Fuel industry.
Over the recent years traditional Kerosene HGL, Low-VOC Firestarters – either through market pressures or Governmental action have been getting replaced with an eco-friendly, safer to use, set of kinder to the planet, natural wooden Firestarters coming in two forms: Wood-Wax Cubes and Tangled “Haybale” Wood Firestarters. This trend complements well the hand-in-glove use of natural charcoal (no fillers or nitrates) with a natural ignition product.
Now, even BBQ grilling enthusiasts can play their small part in reducing our Carbon Footprint as well as enjoying even more quality grilled foods without a chemical odor or taste. This is by using 100% all-natural wooden Firestarters made with FSC accredited (Forest Stewardship Council) sustainable wood and vegetable wax. The demand in the marketplace for ecological firestarters was the opportunity taken by the Family Kamps to expand their range of wooden products so in the mid 1980’s Dutch-Flame BV started producing natural firestarters in the Netherlands. Today they are one of the largest non-hydrocarbon Firestarter manufacturers in the world. Wooden, Biomass Firestarters have become the go-to choice for serious, gourmet backyard & picnic grillers.
Although 100% natural, these wood–wax & wood-wool Firestarters have the same high calorific value of its hydrocarbon counterparts but with a higher, less volatile level of VOC emissions. A safe and eco-friendly win-win.
Following successful (SCAQMD) approval, a subsequent application was made to the State of California Air Resources Board for approval relating to charcoal lighter material certifications under section 94509(H), Title, California code of regulations to which the following executive order J-16-001 was issued.
Let us, some seven million charcoal BBQ enthusiasts have the opportunity to make environmentally responsible decisions – regardless of how singly impactful they may be – by having the freedom to purchase a natural wooden Firestarter to sit alongside one’s natural charcoal. We make a difference in being kinder to the planet, while enjoying great grilling.
