Science & History that Pertain to Retail and the Earth-Friendly Firestarters Industry
Since the beginning of the Industrial revolution, air & water pollution have been a growing concern for modern populations. One of the most pressing pollutants of both air & water have been VOCs.
Put into the simplest of terms, VOC is the standard acronym for Volatile Organic Compound. To site the EPA, VOCs are “… compounds that have a or manufactured organic solids or liquids that either emits gases into the air or leaches pollutants into ground water”.
Although VOCs are everywhere and are not solely a man-made compound, close to 60% of all VOCs known to science originate in factories run by humans. What the advocates of Climate Change have identified as being causes of greenhouse gas can broadly be defined as VOCs. And they are found in such diverse compounds as man-made chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and methane emitted as belches from cattle (whose population has expanded rabidly corresponding to our species’ enjoyment of beef).
Our focus on VOCs here is primarily as a man-made pollutant, which aligns with our commitment to a cleaner, less harmful planet. But it also includes our responsibilities involving the correct measurement of our products and properly labeling them within legal compliances.
VOCs apply to both our categories of environmentally friendly Wood-Wax and GTL firestarters.
Check back for further installments of our conversations regarding VOCs. We’ll be raising other topics such as regulatory agencies, categories of VOCs, and how they impact you and with particular attention to your environmentally oriented customers interacting with our eco-friendly firestarters.
